The following is my answer to a Quora question: “I would like to open an agency to send Tunisian labourers, to Singapore, with their families. How can I do this?”
That is not going to happen.
Firstly, labour can only be imported from nations that are approved by the Ministry of Manpower. This includes restrictions on foreign domestic workers, construction workers, and any form of labour that does not require education, or technical qualifications. Tunisia, and any country from the region, are not on that list.
Secondly, labourers may not bring their families over. They may, possibly, come to visit, provided they can prove they have the funds to go back. However, they may not stay as dependents.
Singapore is very careful about maintaining the balance of cultures. I do not see any scenario where they government would open the floodgates for foreign labour beyond the traditional markets, and upset the racial balance. And when it comes to MENA, there is also the consideration of Islamic extremism. Whilst it may seem an unfair characterisation, we should not be apologetic about being cautious.
