The following is my
answer to a Quora question: “How much of a chance does Malaysia
have of winning a war with Singapore?”
That would be close to zero, and that is why they are
not agitating for it. Singapore has a
far larger military, with the latest technology. More importantly, that technology is
integrated. Singapore has true combined
arms doctrine, an extensive intelligence network, and a well-trained military with
significant reserves.
More importantly, war is won by logistics, and
economics. Singapore has the wealth to
conduct such a war, and the means to execute an invasion to create strategic
depth before Malaysia has the chance to fully mobilise.
A significant disadvantage that Malaysia must deal
with is the fact that half their military is in East Malaysia, guarding the
borders with the Philippines and Indonesia. In the event of a conflict, they do not have
the sealift and airlift capability of bringing their best troops to the
Malaysian Peninsula, and they do not have the air and naval superiority to
secure safe passage, even if they could.
