It is absolutely untrue that lightning does not strike the same place twice. Lightning is the occurrence of a natural electrical discharge of very short duration and high voltage between two places, whether between a cloud or ground, or even within the cloud itself with no ground discharge.
Being the completion of a natural circuit, it always takes the path of least resistance, meaning that if lightning has struck a particular spot, there is a higher than average occurrence that it will hit the same place again. To dramatically illustrate this point, there is a place in Venezuela where lightning strikes up to 280 times a day for almost half of the year. I would recommend it as an excellent spot for some people to go and fly a kite with copper wires.
