The following is my answer to a Quora question: “Does
being rich in America make you rich in every other country as well?”
Firstly, what sort of “rich” are we talking about? There are different definitions of wealthy,
from mass affluent to various categories of high net worth.
Secondly, if you are wealthy, what is the source of
your wealth. Not all wealth is
transferrable.
Generally, if you are at least high net worth, and
your assets are transferrable, you should be comfortable elsewhere. Whether you can maintain it, on the other
hand, is a different matter, due to the differences in the cost of living.
