On the 13th August 2019, I visited SIT
Toastmasters, as project speaker. This
was my 27th club visit, on the 44th day of the Toastmaster
year.
The Toastmaster of the Day was Jeevan Mahendran. The language evaluator was Encey Yao. The table topics master was Desvin s/o K.
Sukumaran. The timer was the interestingly
named Wrong Lee.
I was the first speaker. I spoke on the different categories of
wealth, and how the high net worth utilise insurance and other financial
instruments differently from normal people.
I gave the example of the use of trusts and other vehicles to mitigate
tax liability, investment-linked plans to move funds with minimal oversight,
and the use of premium loans to create wealth through credit lines. The title of my speech was “The Difference
between Rich & Wealthy”.
The second speaker was Vasanthi Jagannathan Ravi. She was attempting a project from the legacy programme’s Advanced Manual, and she played the part of a news presenter, talking about history,
and how it impacts us.
The third speech was by Desvin s/o K. Sukumaran. As the current president, he gave an
impassioned speech about his plans for the club. He wants SIT Toastmasters to have 50 members
by the end of his term, and he unveiled a series of programmes and initiatives
to achieve this, so it was not an empty promise. These young people have a plan.
The project evaluators were Lim Jun Song, Pee Hai
Ning, and Vasanthi Jagannathan Ravi.
Best Speaker: Desvin s/o K. Sukumaran;
Best Table Topics Speaker: Myself; and
Best Evaluator: Vasanthi Jagannathan Ravi.
