On the 26th July 2019, I
dropped by AON Singapore Toastmasters, in my capacity as Director, Area A2. I was also in the programme sheet as general
evaluator. This was their first meeting
of the new term, and they had many non-Toastmasters in attendance. This was my 17th club visit, on
the 26th day of the Toastmasters year.
Penny Anne Radcliffe gave a humorous
speech about her misadventures in cooking for guests. She was animated, she was dramatic, and she
was explicit, as she brought us along, describing the horror she inflicted on
unsuspecting guests over for dinner. All
that, over copious amounts of wine. She was hilarious in her own understated
British manner.
We then returned to sobriety with
Subhash Chandra, the immediate past president, who explained to us, why he
chose his Pathway, Effective Coaching, and how he arrived at his own
self-realisation about his style of dealing with others and stress.
The table topics section was
conducted by Carmen Chan. She put a lot
of effort into creating a presentation with interesting questions formulated
around the theme of identity. What is
most heartening is that we had a lot of new people try their hand at speaking
off the cuff, and there is a lot of potential there. This club has good speakers, and I hope to see
them grow in ability and confidence.
I gave a short address, as Area
Director, Area A2, explaining how, as corporate clubs, we utilise Toastmasters and the
Pathway programme as a form of continuous executive training, in the areas of
leadership and effective communication.
There was no voting for prepared
speeches and evaluations because there were only two speakers for both. The best table topics speaker was myself.
