The following is my answer to a Quora question: “Which country is most likely to invade yours before 2100?”

I think Singapore would be threatened with invasion from Indonesia by then, but not from their military.  The effects of climate change would be greatly pronounced by then, and many of Indonesia’s coastal cities, including Jakarta, will begin to be submerged by rising sea levels.  The country is ill-prepared despite being among the most vulnerable.

There will be progressively more economic migrants from the Malay Archipelago, and they will gravitate towards Malaysia and Singapore.  If Malaysia has not got its act together by then, we are looking at severe civil unrest.  Singapore will not be changing its policy of refusing to take in refugees, and enforcement will be stepped up.  But this means the slow collapse and dissolution of a major trading partner.  This will affect us economically.
