The following is my
answer to a Quora question: “Can you see Warren Edward Buffett’s
portfolio in live time, and copy his investments?”
In real time, no. However, Berkshire Hathaway’s portfolio is
reported quarterly, and people track it. That does not mean you can copy it, however,
unless you have that sort of wealth and support that Berkshire Hathaway has. For example, as a marquee investor, Berkshire
Hathaway is much sought after, and can pick and choose their deals. They have the sort of early access that others
will not.
Also, because of their status, whatever they put money
in will be an immediate buy for smaller investors. That means, any person who follows after then
is always buying at a premium. That rise
in stock value is due to market sentiment, and may not be commensurate to the
actual value of the stock.
Finally, to reiterate my first point, how many people
have the funds to take, for example, a 5% stake in Apple, and negotiate a seat
on the board? This would be like a guppy
trying to swim with whale sharks.
