Retirement is a card we would all like to have in our
deck, but never want to play. People
like the option of being able to retire on their own terms, but most would never
take it. If retirement meant not having
a job, or something to be involved in, we would lose our sense of worth and
decline. It will likely lead to an early
grave, because we are all built to have a feeling of purpose.
If retirement meant spending time doing what we really
love, as opposed to how we spent our career, I think that is very sad. It is like a man who wasted decades for a
promise he never saw kept. Rather, we
should have that goal of financial stability and independence, but work in the
now, and enjoy every moment of it. What
is the point of a distant gratification if we do not enjoy the journey?
