The following is my answer to a Quora
question: “Recently
PAS, in their annual assembly, on Friday, 21st June, stated that
Malaysia is in danger of becoming ‘a second Singapore’. Is becoming a
second Singapore’ really that bad?”
PAS is a racist, Malay-exceptionalist, supposedly “Islamic” party. They had no problems taking stolen 1MDB money, while implementing hudud for theft. They regularly say things like, “A Muslim with no integrity is better than a non-Muslim with integrity”. They have sacralised Malay rights, and made it part of their conception of religion. They are nothing more than bigots and hypocrites.
If Malaysia were more like Singapore, let alone the hyperbole of being a second Singapore, there would no place for groups like PAS. Singapore emphasises meritocracy, and secularism. Religion and race is not a card to be played. No religious party could ever be voted in, and in the unlikely event they do have some of the reins of power, such as through a coalition, they cannot change the Constitution, and turn that “Singapore” is a Malay-fascist “Islamic” state. So, is it bad? It is very bad for PAS. It would be good for Malaysians, though.
