The following is my answer to a Quora question: “Can
a club officer of a Toastmasters Club quit before the term is up?”
Serving as a club officer is not a custodial sentence.
It is done in a voluntary capacity. Club officers can, and have, quit before the
term is up, and there are myriad reasons why. This can be due to politics and infighting; or
this can be due to personal circumstances such as family commitments. In corporate clubs, this may be more common,
since membership of these clubs are restricted to staff and family. When staff are retrenched or change their
jobs, they cease to be a member of the corporate club. This also ends their term as club officer.
