On the 16th September 2019, I was at Nee
Soon South Toastmasters Club, as project speaker. This was my 62nd club visit on the
78th day of the Toastmaster year.
The Toastmaster of the Day was Chan Ah Cheng. She was also the table topics master. The language evaluator was Ajit. The timer was Tess.
The president’s opening address, by Lim Jun Song, was
about the challenges of reaching the Moon, and that was the analogy of running
a small club. According to the
president, it sometimes feels like a farmer ploughing a field without
buffalos. But whenever he felt
overwhelmed, he learned to reach out to others.
Tess spoke of her pursuit of passion, as her
icebreaker. She introduced herself as a
Residents’ Committee member, a professional engineer with LTA, and an elder
sister.
Louisa Lim told us she works in IT, just like her
husband. And that how, aside from IT,
they have very different interests and social circles. Despite this, it was
love at first sight when they met. She
joined Toastmasters to overcome her fear of public speaking, and in that time,
acquired a taste for rhetoric, and is a member of multiple clubs.
I spoke about the use of insurance policies as
financial instruments by the wealthy, and how it differed from what
conventionally is done.
The evaluators were Shanmugam, Sivanesan K. Murugayan,
and Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop.
Lim Jun Song was the general evaluator.
Best Speaker: Myself; and
Best Table Topics Speaker: Ajit.
There was no voting for best evaluator.
