On the 17th September 2019, I was at Bukit
Timah Toastmasters Club, as Workshop Speaker.
This was my 63rd club visit on the 79th day of the
Toastmaster year.
The Toastmaster of the Day was Max Chan Tat
Leong. The timer was Jerome Lee Ming Kai. The ah counter was Elizaveta Nikolaeva. The table topics master was Avreal Teng.
Ambrose Chan spoke about the challenges he underwent
before he started his recruitment business.
He was honest about his shortcomings in his earlier years, due to
inexperience, and the impetuosity of youth.
He then spoke about the 5-second rule when it comes to making a
decision.
Ranjith Kumar mentioned that he is a published author
of a children’s book, which introduces shipbuilding to children. He opened by saying that we should not be
proud of what we have inherited, but what we have achieved. He also said, what we feel, our body will
react, so it is important to guard our thoughts.
Johnny Xu gave an insightful account of why he calls
himself “Johnny” since he is pure Chinese, from China. The simple reason is because English-speakers
have difficulty pronouncing his name. He
has had this issue since he came to Singapore in 1992.
I gave a forty-minute presentation on rhetoric, and
the use of rhetorical devices in speech.
I also speak about the psychology of the crowd, and how to utilise the
skills we gain in Toastmasters in the real world.
The evaluators were Jonathan Yeo Wee Leong, Livio
Deltin, and Loh Ne Kyean.
Best Speaker: Ranjith Kumar;
Best Evaluator: Loh Ne Kyean; and
Best Table Topics Speaker: Myself.
