On the 21st September
2019, I
was at Jauhari Bilingual Toastmasters Club as ah counter. This was my 66th club visit, on
the 83rd day of the Toastmaster year.
The Toastmasters of the Day were Muhammad Nurfarhan
bin Abdul Jaaffar and Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop. The language evaluator was Shahira Banu. The table topics master was Mohamad Saddiqi bin Mohamad Said. The timer was Mikhail Kho.
The president, Wiwiek Najihah binte Hairudin, spoke
about unlearning, in her opening address.
Since there is really no such thing as removing the knowledge and
notions we acquire, this is actually about building the correct knowledge
around established facts.
Sally Boey gave her first speech, and it was made via
recording since she holds two jobs. It
is an impressive level of commitment.
She spoke about her values, her experience working in a hotel, and how
she deals with being half-blind.
Muhammad Nurfarhan bin Abdul Jaaffar spoke further
about the history of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, and his strained relationship
with Major-General William Farquhar. He
put forth a convincing case that Singapore should recognise Major-General
William Farquhar as the actual founder of modern Singapore.
The project evaluators were Thomas
Chen Jun Ying, Dwiputri, and Alpha Ku Young Far.
Best Evaluator: Thomas Chen Jun Ying;
and
Best Table Topics Speaker: Guest.
