The following is my
answer to a Quora question: “What happens after the militants
defeat those who joined ISIS?”
ISIS as an extent political entity, with contiguous
area of rule is essentially defeated. The
ideology that gave rise to it is far from defeated. Groups such as Boko Haram, Al Qaeda, Jemaah
Islamiyya, and Abu Sayyaf are all still very much active. As for those fighting for ISIS now, if they are
captured, they either face a lengthy process of often show trials, deportations
for foreign fighters, or summary execution. Personally, I do not oppose summary
executions.
