The following is my
answer to a Quora question: “Should ISIS brides face the death
penalty if the country they come from allows it?”
The death penalty is for specific crimes. Whilst belonging to ISIS is an offence in
these countries because they are considered a terrorist group, mere membership
does not carry the death penalty. If a
country is going to execute someone, there has to be a better case, such as
murder, sedition, waging war against the state or other specific crimes against
humanity. If they are guilty of capital
crimes, they should absolutely be tried and executed.
