The following is my answer to a Quora
question: “Unpopular
opinion: Do you agree that the wealth accumulated by CEOs such as William Henry
Gates III and Jeffrey Preston Bezos are the result of underpaid wages?”
I am not sure how unpopular this is, but
it is certainly factually incorrect. Much of the wealth that people like William
Henry Gates III, Jeffrey Preston Bezos, even Warren Edward Buffet have
accumulated is not in cash flow, and thus at the expense of someone else. Their wealth is tied to the stock of their
company. Since people see value in their
business, and there is demand for their stock, the value of their companies
have grown. And since, as the founders,
they control much of the stock, their commensurate wealth has also increased.
