The following is
my answer to a Quora question: “Why I feel staying in
Singapore seems a little bit boring even though Singapore is known as a very
modern city?”
The thing about spoilt children is that
they always expect to be entertained. They
should not be accommodated. There are a
lot of things to do, hobbies, projects, events. It is our responsibility to find something
meaningful to fill our time, not complain about being “bored”.
We hear this argument that Singapore is
boring, sanitised, that there is no excitement. I get the impression that these people have no
real idea what they are asking. I was in
Sri Lanka during the civil war. I was in
Japan, after an earthquake. I was in
Thailand after the tsunami. There was
plenty of excitement.
The reason why we all come home to
Singapore is because as we get older, we want less of that excitement. There is a lot to be gained in starting a
business, taking up a hobby, getting involved in an organisation. If you are bored, it means you are not doing
enough to make your life worthwhile.
