Yuhua TMC as Project Speaker, 06th September 2019

On the 06^th September 2019, I was at Yuhua Toastmasters Club, as project speaker.  This was my 52^th club visit on the 68^th day of the Toastmaster year.

The Toastmaster of the Day was Gibson Tan.  The timer was Willie Loh Chung Wei.  The table topics master was Mohamad Saddiqi bin Mohamad Said.

Ng Siew Kueen gave the first speech, and she spoke about having a paradigm shift.  This was an expansion of her previous speech, which she gave at Jurong Green English Toastmasters Club, about her travels.  Travels expands our horizons, and forces us into a paradigm shift, on how we see the world.

My speech was about enacting petty revenge.  I recounted instances, in my youth, where I got back at people in creative ways.  I was very mischievous once. It was a humorous speech, told in a deadpan manner.

Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop spoke about his journey, where he used his journey from Kuala Lumpur, to make this meeting, as an analogy of his larger journey, and how we are all part of it.

The evaluators were Ong Ching Kang, Charlston Low Jun Ting, and Anand Ariyarathinam.

Best Speaker: Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop; and

Best Table Topics Speaker: Anand Ariyarathinam.

Since only two evaluators qualified, there was no voting for best evaluator.

Yuhua TMC as Language Evaluator, 02nd August 2019

On the 02^nd August 2019, I was at Yuhua Toastmasters Club, as language evaluator, and ah counter.  I was also there to facilitate a forum.  This was my 23^rd club visit, on the 33^rd day of the Toastmaster year.

Yuhua Toastmasters Club is an interesting club to visit because it is the proving ground for several ideas that Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop, Mohamad Saddiqi, and myself have on how to make these meetings interesting, engaging, and most importantly, something that people can take away and apply immediately in the real world.

There were two prepared speeches.  Muhammad Nurhakim bin Mohamed Yusop spoke about eschewing laksa for more than two decades due to an incident in Primary One.  It was a study in how adverse experiences hold us back from good things.

Sam Chou gave the second portion of his evaluation and feedback project speech, about knowing ourselves to know others.  This was especially interesting to me, since I was the evaluator for the first part of the project, the day before.

For the table topics session, conducted by Mohamad Saddiqi bin Mohamad Said, there was a twist on the project, which required people to come up in teams of two to attempt the topic in a sort of impromptu dialogue.  This made it far more challenging, and fun.

We then had a sort of Toastmasters forum, so that we could all discuss why people actually join a club on public speaking, their actual motives and inspiration.  It was a good start to this initiative.  Someone said that he joined Toastmasters to outshine a nephew he despised, another Toastmaster.  One of them said that she joined because she did not want to lose out at work.  Someone else said that he joined to learn to argue back.  One person admitted that he joined because it was a healthy outlet for his natural competitiveness, and he was here to win competitions.  That is laudable.

The project evaluators were Lim Jia Hui, and Owen Ter.

Best Table Topics Speakers: Sivanesan K. Murugayan & Myself, Joshua Sathasivam Shanmugam & Ho Chiu Lin.

There was a tie between two teams.  There was no voting for best speaker, and best evaluator because there were only two of each.
