On the 07th
November 2019, I was at Astro@Radin Mas Toastmasters Club, as language evaluator. This was my 112th club visit on
the 130th day of the Toastmaster year.
The
sergeant-at-arms was Julie Ong P. S., the Toastmaster of the Day was Tony Tan Sein
Wee, the table topics master was Tjong Hendri Chandra, and the timer was Loy Hoo
Keong.
Tjong Jhony Chandra spoke about managing his cell group.
Junie
Seow spoke about the psychology of colour.
According to her research, colours influence her. Her presentation was colourful, and
informative.
Varun
Pant spoke about leaving a legacy. He cited
the story of “Easy” Eddie, who was the accountant of Alphonse Gabriel “Al”
Capone. “Easy” Eddie decided to set an
example for his son, and turned Al Capone in.
In return, “Easy” Eddie was shot to death. He then segued to a second story. During the Pacific campaign of the Second
World War, Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry “Butch” O’Hare became the first
naval aviator to ever earn the Medal of Honour.
He went missing in action, after being shot down, on the 26th
November 1943. Chicago’s O’Hare airport
is named after him, as was many other places, and a naval vessel. Lieutenant Commander Edward Henry “Butch” O’Hare
was the son of “Easy” Eddie, whose real name was Edward Joseph O’Hare.
The
evaluators were Belinda Lee, Adeline Yeo, Julie Ong P. S., and Tony Lim Tong Lee.
