The following
is my answer to a Quora question: “Is being a
personal financial advisor like being in sales?”
Any business that involves growing your client base or expanding your
network has an element of sales. Clients
do not appear out of thin air. However,
being a financial consultant is more service than sales. Getting clients is a small part of the
business. Keeping them, and growing with
them is what makes it sustainable. An
established financial consultant has a stable client base, and it is likely
smaller, focused, and has been with him for a substantial period of time. A financial advisor who does not address
client needs will lose those clients, and is unlikely to survive for long in
the business.
