On the 05th October
2019, I was at Clementi Toastmasters Club, as project evaluator. This was my 80th club visit on the
97th day of the Toastmaster year.
The
Toastmaster of the Day was Diann Liew Woon Chin.
The general evaluator was Putu Sanjaya Setiawan. The timer was Edward Lim. The ah counter was William Tang Loon Hui. The table topics master was Vimal Kumar.
Miranda
Zhang Xiao Xi asked us if we felt burned out.
She spoke about her realisation that she was a doormat, always pleasing
others, but never getting any fulfillment herself. This caused her to reflect on why people are
like this. Her conclusion is because we
lack self-assurance, and confidence.
This lack of confidence, and low self-esteem, eventually leads to
burnout. She gave detailed steps on how
to address this.
Venkatesh
Narayanan explained that there are different types of salesperson, and roleplayed
the archetypes, with A. Suresh. In
essence, the effective salesperson is able to establish need, and address them
with the appropriate products, or services.
Chia
Yee Xin paraphrased Vince Lombardi: Leaders are made, not born. She then expounded on her leadership journey,
in school, and elsewhere. She established
her credentials and then explained the evolution of her leadership style.
Gerald
Yong Kim Heong then conducted a workshop on how to connect with people, and
make the most of our Toastmasters experience.
He drilled down on the need to practice speaking by maximizing airtime.
The
evaluators were Gareth Chin, Antony Hardjojo, Ivan Lee Kuan Seng, and myself.
Best
Speaker: Miranda Zhang Xiao Xi;
Best
