Quora Answer: Is a Business Putting Up a Sign Expressing Political Opinion Wise?

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “As a public business, is putting up a sign expressing their political opinion a wise thing to do?” 

This seems to be a quintessentially American thing.  Business, religion, and politics should not be mixed unless there is a reason.  Putting up signs to state your political opinion is hardly a good reason.  This is about making a point, and imagining that they have such a surfeit of customers that they can go out and offend large sections of the customer demographic for no good reason.  In many places in the developed world, unless there is an election around the corner, and a contentious issue on the ballot, this would be highly unlikely.
