Malaysia is one of those countries that should have
attained near developed status long ago due to the inherent advantages the
British left it upon independence and its wealth of natural resources, but it
never will. As long as the country
elevates one race, the Malays, over others in an apartheid system they call Ketuanan
Melayu, it will always be in danger of regressing to a failed state status
due to underlying racial and religious tensions.
Malaysia is an example of how a vestige of
Pan-Islamism has robbed its citizens of their future. The fruits of Ketuanan Melayu is a
pseudo-feudal political patronage system, race-based politics, entrenched
corruption and a brain drain that will continue to rob the nation of its best
and brightest.
