Blog; Executive Leadership Seminar Panel 1: “Innovation Strategy in Leadership - Discerning New Horizons”

Panel 1 of the Executive Leadership Seminar was “Innovation Strategy in Leadership - Discerning New Horizons”.  Innovation refers to the process of creating, developing, and implementing a new product, process, or service, with the aim of improving efficiency, effectiveness, or competitive advantage.  It involves deliberate application of information, imagination, and initiative in deriving greater or different values from resources.  Leaders must balance the need to innovate with stable, consistent growth.  There is a strategic aspect, as well as an operational aspect, with needs that must be met.

This panel explored the role of leaders in fostering an environment that encourages innovation, where new ideas are valued, risks are taken, and creative processes are institutionalised.  It is about leaders who not only adapt to change but drive change in pursuit of better solutions and strategies.  This is especially pertinent in light of the recent post-pandemic economy, and regional conflicts impacting businesses and organisations at many levels.  We are living in a time when there are changes in the global order.  One of the great challenges of innovation is the challenge of sustainability, as we tackle the unique challenges of the climate crisis.

The panel was moderated by Mr. Hyder Taufik, Founder of High Flyer Nation.  The panellists were Mr. Matthew Fernandez, Chief Operating Officer of microLEAP PLT; Mr. Melvin Tan, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of 8VantEdge; Dr. Roslina Chai, Founder of Chrysalis Institute of Be-ing, and Senior Associate, Strategy & Innovation for  Decision Processes International Asia; and Mr. Vernon Lim, Senior Consultant of Monarch Advisory and Vjoire.
