On the 23rd January 2020, I was at AIA
Toastmasters Club, for the NFNF.
The sergeant-at-arms was Linda Lee. The Toastmaster of the Day was David Seragih. The language evaluator was Gerald Yong Kim
Heong. The timer was Chng Pia Kim. The ah counter was Jack Sia Cheong Ghee. The table topics master was Francis Goh Qing
Kang. The creative director was Eric Tan
Shi Wei. The photographer was Joy Chow Jie
Lin.
Jack Sia Cheong Ghee, in his opening address, spoke
about the feng shui aspects of the Year of the White Metal Rat. As detailed as Chinese horoscopes are,
however, we still create our own luck.
Stephen Hoon Wee Jin, in his speech, “How Old is
Grandma Lindsay”, began with a game. The
lesson drawn is that we constantly make assumptions throughout our lives,
instead of asking the right questions.
As such. Asking the right questions to establish the facts is a special
skill to be nurtured.
Cindy Gan Chia Ee spoke about her journey as Vice-President,
Public Relations. She shared with us her
highlights and low points.
Margrette Lo Foong Quan shared with us her foray into
social media, and the discipline required to maintain a blog. She spoke of three outcomes of sharing news
and thoughts: the good, the bad, and the ugly.
She then expounded on examples, and tied it to the spread of fake news.
The evaluators were Linda Lee, Ivan Lee Kuan Seng, and
Eric Tan Shi Wei.
Best Speaker: Cindy Gan Chia Ee;
Best Evaluator: Eric Tan Shi Wei; and
Best Table Topics Speaker: Eric Tan Shi Wei.
