The following is my answer to a Quora
question: “Is
a blind trust an asset that can be claimed in a legal suit?”
Unless you have reason to sue a trust
directly, a blind trust is an irrevocable trust. This means that the settlor is distinct from
the trust. The assets of the trust are
protected from claims against the settlor. This includes claims from creditors, and from
a former spouse in a matrimonial dispute.
