Quora Answer: What Should I Do When My Husband Sends Money to His Wealthy Mother While We Struggle?

The following is my answer to a Quora question: “My husband sends money to his wealthy mother.  She spends it on luxuries.  We are struggling to pay the bills.  What do I do?”

I would suggest that you speak to your husband about this imbalance in finances.  It does not make sense for him to support his wealthy mother despite your financial struggles.  You could also consider speaking to his mother.  It could be possible that she does not know the full story; your husband wants to maintain a facade for a reason.  Also, you should relook your family finances and see where you can cut your expenses, and whether you can consolidate your debt.

If, after all this, your husband does not want to listen and look to address this, then consider divorce.  Marriage is a partnership.  If it is not working, and cannot be fixed, I see no point staying in a relationship that gives you that much grief.
