On the 10th October
2019, I was at Chua Chu Kang Toastmasters Club, as language evaluator. This was my 84th club visit on the
102nd day of the Toastmaster year.
The
sergeant-at-arms was Katherine Kang Siew Hua. The
Toastmaster of the Day was Dalvin Lee Guo Rong.
The timer was Angela Lansbury. The
ah counter was Shruti Virun. The table
topics master was Sajeeva Silva.
Pei
Yi Heng, in his opening address, mentioned Oprah Gail Winfrey’s passion for her work
which was the catalyst for her daytime talk show becoming an international phenomenon. He quoted her: “Passion is energy that makes
you feel the power of what excites you.”
There was in induction of new members. The induction was performed by Dalvin Lee Guo Rong.
Lilly
Prajnya Routray recounted her childhood, in India, and her love for gardening. She spoke of the pain of finding her garden
ruined by flower thieves, and the years it took for her to go back to it.
Garen Tee Hang Chung gave a presentation about the challenges he faced, being the youngest person
on a huge executive committee, and the president, of the Toastmasters Club of
Singapore. He walked us through his
system of motivating club members.
Priscilla
Chew explained the reasons why the Chinese celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, and
the associated myths. She spoke of Hou
Yi, and Change ‘Er, the heavenly animal spirits, and the events in between.
The
evaluators were Aaron Ting King Hean, Jerome Lee, and Thomas Chen Jun Ying.
